Dragon's Musings
21 October 2002
It's been a long time, hasn't it? Yes, it has. I agree completely. I've been very busy at work. Like the paperwork monster on my desk is now growing terribly and is going to eat me soon. Anyway, I am making the Big Scary Step. Yes, I am buying a house. Well, I'm looking for a house to buy. I have just returned home from being pre-approved for a mortgage, so yes, I have made quite a bit of headway on my Big Scary Step. Perhaps I shall return at a later date and fill in on the Big Scary Step. That is how it shall be known.
On the plus side, I avoided the computer all weekend. Scary, I know. But I did. Instead, my mom and I played with a product called "Stiffy." No you perverts, it's fabric stiffener. So we made a ghost and a mummy's hand. Ghost: take some wire and shove it in a styrofoam ball and make hands & some sort of body support. Drape stiffied fabric over the styrofoam ball head and arrange it prettily. Mummy Hand: stuff some wire and stuffing in a latex glove. support it on like a can or something, and wrap as one would wrap a mummy's hand with stiffied fabric strips. Let dry 24 hours. Great halloween decorations. I also made a wreath. Read a book. I actually bought 7 books over the weekend as Walden Books was having a buy 4 Sci-Fi/Fantasy books, get the 5th free. And I bought stuff for my halloween costume. I am going to be beyond adorable. That's all I have to say. :-)
Well, I must start dinner now so I shall go. I have no shout outs to make because I haven't been online since Thursday. Basically. Hence I have nothing cool to say about my peeps.
Until next time:

Well today is National Denim Day for Breast Cancer research. Yep, I paid for my right to wear jeans on Friday. But I'm also exercising my right to denim with my purty denim long coat. well, it's a sleevless dress I wear as an over-thing. It's cool.
Anyway, I had a crazy dream last night and wanted to share. I'd type it out here, but it is long and I've already put it there, so you just click your mousie on the link, ok? Ok then, I'll get back to my lunch.

Ok, blogging on lunch time. Why? Because I haven't yet this month. And what am I going to get on my soap box about now? Democracy. Specifically Democracy in New York State. See, Democracy here is terribly broken. NYS has a legislature just for show. In reality, 3 people rule the state. The Governor, the Speaker of the Assembly, and the head of the Sate Senate. Only the governors change. The Assembly and Senate remain the same pretty much for all time. Why? Because the longer you're in, the more money you get for your pet programs in your area. Hence you don't get voted out. Also. I believe the Senate is Republican and the Assembly is Democrat. So what does that mean? It means that no matter what party the Governor is, nothing gets done. And it doesn't matter who is voted for because all power is in the hands of 3 people.
Ok, stepping off that soap box 'cause my feet hurt. And stepping on another. Spelling and the state of education in America. Ok, no child left behind is all well and good. However, AIM, MSN, Yahoo Instant Messenger, E-mail, and in general the Internet revolution has destroyed the english language. Well, there's a giant push from the Music Industry as well. Just because you are writing an e-mail does not mean that proper capitalization and punctuation can be thrown out the window. However, in chat rooms, I have come across the most atrocious spelling ever imagined. These were not typos. These were deliberate spelling mistakes, such as "u suk". Please, if I am going to be insulted, have the courtesy to show some intelligence when doing so and insult with proper grammar. That would be "You suck." in the spelling advocated by both Webster and Oxford. "Korn" is spelled "Corn." I have nothing against the band using a self-chosen variation of a word. That is their legal right and creative right. But when speaking of the vegetable that is related to maise, it is, indeed, spelled C-O-R-N. Similarly, "Biscuit" is not spelled "Bizkit." Bizkit is how Limp Bizkit chooses to spell the name of their band. The carbohydrate treat that you eat is not spelled that way. "You" has three letters, and "Suck" has a "c". "Are" also has three letters. "Sk8er Boi" is the name of a song. A BOY that skates is a Skater-Boy. So should you encounter someone in a random chat that you enter who is insulted by your misuse of the English language (and professes to be a 2836 year old dragon), just smile and nod if you do not understand the big words I use. For I know a myriad of them, and am not afriad to utilize one or a plethora in an offensive maneuver dedicated to your entire obsfucation. English is fucked up as it is, so please do not wound it any further with your mutilations.
Thanks to Michelle who joined me in this intelligent discussion upon the dumbing down of America.
Now I may step down from my soap box and eat.
