30 December 2002
Well, I updated my Fanlisting Go join, and I'll add you sometime in January. Yes, I'm slow. I have a slew of Solstice greetings to add, and some New Years ones too... *eyes cross* I haven't even downloaded them to my own computer for uploading onto the site. *sigh* Not that I'm complaining, just that I'm lazy. Lazy Lazy me. You will notice I have not yet put up my photos section, and that was back from when I changed who hosted Beanies Dragons.com.
In other news, I will soon be saying goodbye to APRA-UNY @ Beaniesdragons.Com Which is because APRA-UNY has it's own brand-spaking new domain, that if I get my ass in gear will go live January 1. Here's hoping apra-uny.org gets done tomorrow. :) Well, It's partially done.
Other than that, not much new to report. My brother and his wife were up for the long weekend. Well it was long to them, 2 days for me. 2 days off, work 2 days, 2 days off is not doing me much good. Well, here's to having Wednesday off, and having an impromptu NYE gathering about 1 1/2 hours from my house, which makes getting there from work a very pleasant thing.
Ah well... Jen calls.

26 December 2002
So I wrote a letter:
To Whom It May Concern:
Perhaps you had been unaware of the compound problems that are faced an employee who has to park in the Manley Field House lots. Generally, such an employee has not worked at the University long enough, nor has a title high enough to warrant a permit in a lot on the main campus. "All faculty and staff "home lot" parking permits are allocated on the basis of rank and years of service with the University." (As taken from the parking services website). Generally, such an arrangement is a minor irritant at worst. However, there come times when several events happen all at once to make such parking, and therefore getting to work, a nightmare.
An example of such would be this morning, the morning of December 26, 2002. While the reduced hours over the Holidays are greatly appreciated, due to the reduced bus schedule that is implemented when the student are not on campus, there are few busses that run during the hours when an employee would be arriving to and departing from work. Were it in the summer, this would still not be an unbearable problem. However, in the winter, in Central New York, in the middle of the Lake Effect belt, there is generally snow on the ground. Therefore, an employee has to either come in early or stay later regardless of the reduced hours to ride a bus, or the employee has to walk through the snow.
I realize the University can only be responsible for the sidewalks that they own. But it should be brought to the attention of the University that there are several private homes on Comstock Avenue, as well as the Cemetery that employees would have to walk past in order to get to the main campus. The nearest point on Campus to the northernmost tip of Manley North is at least a half mile. As stated before, during the summer, spring and fall, walking is not a problem. However in winter, when the busses do not run at the same times employees are going to and leaving from work, the University is condemning the employees to walking through snow or on the street (which is not safe) and the chill to get to work.
On the morning of December 26, 2002, all these problems were compounded by the fact that the parking lot at Manley Field House was not plowed. Snow removal after the storm that happened on December 25, 2002, is often tedious work. However, at 9am, during the reduced hours, plowing the lot had not even begun. Nowhere in evidence were the plows and tractors that are often seen much earlier on other days when snow had fallen the day before. The severe lack of plowing made it nearly impossible to first get in the borders of the lot, and then to traverse the lot and actually park your car in the lot as opposed to the main driveways used by the busses. Most vehicles are not designed to propel themselves through a foot of snow.
It is not so much to expect that since we have to pay for the ability to park at least a half mile from our place of employment, that such a lot, uncomplicated by the presence of student vehicles, be plowed and salted in a timely manner as are the lots on the Main Campus.
In the future, please try to take into consideration the fact that not only students park at Manley Field House, and there are many employees who work the full-year schedule as opposed to the academic-year schedule who have to park there as well. After making several phone calls, I was informed that the physical plant was belatedly getting to work on the Manley lot. For some reason, it seems as though one shouldn't have to make phone calls and write e-mails in order to be able to park and get to work in a timely fashion.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Elizabeth L. Dunn, on behalf of myself and other SU employees who have to park at Manley Field House

Well the holiday was blah. Yep. Blah. It snowed all day. I slept in. Opened up like the 5 presents. Mom & I were both like "hey, we get each other presents all year round, so *shrug* " Blah, I tell you. It snowed like a foot. Having the two days off work were nice. I finished Return of the King, started on the Hobbit (which I got myself for Christmas). I have the histories of Middle Earth now (volumes 1,2, 4 & 5--3 wasn't in the store). Mom got me a little Norbert from Harry Potter and sheets with dragons all over them. I shall have to put them on my bed soon.
Anyways, I was all Happy and Chipper and Merry and Pippin... er Bright... until I got to my freaking parking lot. Now, they force the peons to park at Manley. Peons generally don't have as much vacation as the un-peons who can park on campus actually. So first they reduce the number of busses when the students leave, but then after the aforementioned foot of snow above what do they do? I should say, what don't they do? That's right, all of us peons, all of whom do not have the cabapility to buy a Humvee, have to try to get IN our fucking parking lot through a fucking foot of snow. That is right! DING DING DING! They didn't bother to plow the parking lot, and only did like one entrance. Wasn't that lovely of them to do to the people they're already oppressing through inferior parking.
Now, that wouldn't be bad if I were say a Tolkein Elf and my car was too. We could have a lark on top of the snow, parking up there, nancing and frolicking down the street atop the snow. That would be beyond cool and I would enjoy such a thing. Not to mention the fact they don't really feel the cold and wear light shoes everywhere because they're all... elfy. But alas, I have not yet acheived elfdom yet. *waves to people at the WETA workshop* HEY ELF ME!
So I'm a little pissed to say the least. From my Merry Christmas from SU Parking. Fucking grinches every one of them.
*whimpers* I wanna be an elf. *pouts*
Shells I hope you're all right and are feeling a little better. Jen Sorry I wasn't on Tuesday and Wednesday. I promise I'll be on now.

I'm not even supposed to be on right now. So straight away, apologies to Jen, Shells, and Susie because I'm not on AIM. I had to start my computer to get an agenda for my meeting tomorrow morning (yes all morning girls--susie, no morning encouragement from me... I'll try for afternoon).
Anyway, just got back from seeing The Two Towers, because I was impatient and couldn't hold out one bit. They were right when they said that it diverged the most from the books. I don't know if it was better than the first as I was digesting it, and the theater had sucky sound. My pretty-boy survived, of course. But I have to say, Legolas Love aside, that Gollum stole the movie. He really did. Kudos to the poor poor man who played him and for the sake of the movie had to jump in freezing water to pretend to catch fish, then RESHOOT all his scenes so his entire body could be edited out and this adorable scap of patheticness substituted. Yes, my honey did good, killed a bunch of orcs and kept thinking his buddies up and died on him. Poor elf, I will hug you. I have a few more things to say. Aragorn: choose the human! even though he won't listen. I know he won't. Stupid immortal fairest of the elves. Well, if I write too much then I'll spoil the movie for the people who haven't yet seen it, and that would not be good of me. God, my little elf sits a horse well. *has lusty thoughts that would turn his ears pink* So in conclusion *Pets legolas for speaking elvish, though you were a stupid poo poo head and it made me want to beat you but you made up for it, so I will continue to brush your long pretty hair* *Pets Gimli because it had to be tough to being the only dwarf and besides, your tale about dwarf men & women was a nice one* *Pets Aragorn and wonders why he has this insistence on being dirty all the time* *pets Merry & Pippin for actually showing that they are intelligent hobbits* *Pets Gollum/Smeagol because he needs good petting and some fattening up* *pets Legolas again just because* *pets Elrond 'cause he's got a daddy's girl and did what a good daddy should in the end* *pets Legolas one more time & notices he is diry & tired from all that fighting so offers him a shower and a nice soft bed* No you sick peoples, I will share no more details, and it occurs to me that I also need a shower and a nice soft bed. Imagine that. hmm...
Thanks Shells for your holiday wishes, I'll get it up for the world to see soon!

My Daddy is sooooo silly. How silly is he? you ask. Well Silly as this: I'm getting all prepared for my Big Scary Step and have looked at houses (see below) and all of a sudden he comes out with: We should just get a new house with an in-law apartment. I thought it was a joke. Nope, he looked at them today, and mentioned it over dinner. He wants to get a new house with an in-law apartment. Why? you ask. Well because Mr. She's Gotta Move Out has decided that he doesn't want me to move out. Well he doesn't want me to move down near SU because he listens to the news and has decided that the neighborhoods are just not good enough for his little girl (me). So his solution is to get a house with an in-law apartment, have me live in the in-law apartment and pay rent. WTF! Daddy is so silly. He wants me to move out in theory, but not practice.
In other news, I am so not in the holiday spirit. I think I went from November to February. I have no desire to put up decorations or anything. I'm way behind on present-shopping, it's not even funny. I have things to mail and make, in theory, just no motivation. Seriously, it feels like February. It doesn't feel like the Holiday season. I don't know what it's from. Maybe because of world politics. Maybe because I'm just going to be working straight through them. Putting up the tree was almost too much effort. It's up. Mom & I put it up today. But other than that? *rolls eyes* I could care less. Bah humbug or whatever. I mean, ususally, I'm all in the spirit, but not this year. Nope. Not feeling it. Still feeling like I want to go to a deserted island and stay there forever.

Well well well... I'm back from my weekend of fun. Tell me, if something is billed as a Gothic Victorian Christmas and totes Museum quality collections don't you think that the collections should be more than a 4 foot by 4 foot glass box with 6 pieces of American Girl stuff in them? Yeah, so do I. And if there's a gothic victorian mansion that is supposed to be decorated for Christmas, then shouldn't it be like, I don't know, open to be perused? Yeah, and admission too.
For a place where you can go and shop artsy-crafty things for Christmas gifts.
Hello?
Yes, that's all it was. Paid to go see several rooms to shop for artsy-craftsy stuff. Yes I was less than impressed
But Tali, my adorable Jhari Cat from the NC Renaissance fair, made an appearance at the Christmastown Festival, which is not the even described above. It is free to the public and does not pretend to be period-based. And therefore is much better. Yes, I got 5 books and a CD for $2 which is a good bargain as it was $1 to buy something singly and $2 to fill a bag. Needless to say, I filled a bag.
I also got a gift for my mommy, and some other stuff that I can't quite remember. But in other news, I can now play with Legolas all day at work. Because my darlingest Amanda gave me a Legolas action figure. She also gave my darling Sue (not Susie, just plain Sue or Suzy or Suepey) a Sigmund Freud action figure.
So once upon a time we were doing reading for class, and Sue was reading a book on Soap in Zimbabwe and I was reading Sigmund Freud's interpretation of dreams. Anyway, Jaclyn asked a question about sex, and the reply got into far more detail than either Sue or I wanted. Sue started chanting "Soap in Zimbabwe, Soap in Zimbabwe" to concentrate on her book, and I started changint "Sigmund Freud, Sigmund Freud" Only Sigmund Freud isn't the best thing to read to get your mind off sex. Therefore Siggie became a little Suite theme
So the Sigmund Freud action figure comes up to Hobbit Height on Legolas. So Freud is a hobbit! Great, I smell a parody if I can get my butt onto Photoshop and make some pretties. Yes, folks. The Lord of the Rings, starring S. Freudo Baggins. I just also have to dig out my Freud schlock and see if a ring has any Freudian imagry with it. For some reason considering it is a hole in which a long thing goes in, I'm thinking YEAH.
Ok, well onto Shells and Jen who were darling to me and we all behaved like civilized people and offered constructive criticism as opposed to nastygrams. :)

Welcome to the "i'm waiting to finish my laundry so I can pack and go to bed" blog. Yes, I am leaving on another grand adventure. My weekends are turning out to be full of them. Well on Sunday, I ventured on the Big Scary Step I actually went INTO houses and looked at them. Goodness some of them were scary. One had this awkward layout and there were still people living there, and they had their crap everywhere! It was filthy, even by my standards. So you get by the filth, and the main beam in the basment has been cut. I don't think I'm going to be making an offer on that one.
The next one was cute, but it had only one room I liked, and the rest of the layout was kinda iffy, and it didn't float my boat forever. The third one also had people who were moving out, and the toilet looked like it had shit in it. Yes, shit. Human fecal matter. And the furnace was ancient. It was of the old octopus design. I think the furnace in Clue the movie had it. it scared me. I would have nightmares about the furnace. The fourth one had a family in it, but they were at least neat and tidy. It looked like the basment had been flooded and I suspect the half-bath in the basment was used for illegal substances as opposed to normal bathroom uses. But other than that (which freaked me out), it had a neat design and a big open attic room. Yeah, that big open attic room... that was where 5 kids slept. Without a bed. The only bed was for the parents and then a crib for the baby. Yeah, and I bet all 6 kids were under 7.
So the last house would probably need a new roof, but it was built in 1860 which is plain cool and had this one adorable room with a fireplace and a bay window. Talk about charm. :) It was a sweet looking house with more space than I'd know what to do with. So I'm keeping on looking. I have to contact my agent and see about looking at another few houses.
This blog is dedicated to no one in particular. I'd give out shout-outs, but I'm too lazy to type links. Go visit my family.

Well, now I've got a .php blog, so this will only show up once I get my new layout up and running. But anyway, as you are here, you should go other places. Like Susie's Site called Random Typonic. I can wax poetic on Susie now, because it is wednesday and she needs Wednesday pick-me-ups because Wednesdays are major suckage days for her. Craptacular as Meg would say. So you should go visit Susie's Site and wish her a happy day. And if you know her IM screen names, leave her a happy messge. And then you should wish hot menz for Susie.
