Dragon's Musings
29 May 2003
Orpheus has settled in.
He was going out and in and out and in last night, and one time I hear a muffled meow and then a loud one, and I go see what it is, and there on my front porch, pleased as punch, is my little Orpheus and a present!
He gave me a house-warming gift, how... thoughtful. The outside toy was in the shape of abird.
On other news, I managed to clear about 2 square feet of garden along my back fence. I'm also in the process of building a stone wall, starting with cinderblocks as a base and working up with slate, rocks and other things. I think the previous owner was under the impression that it would be good to stop plants growing by squishing them. He also mulched with bark. Long, wide pieces of bark. Like 4 feet long 2 feet wide. I'm getting plans for gardeny-stuff though.
I still don't know precisely where I'm going to put Jeni (the azalea I won as described in the blog below)--if she'll sit out front or in the back.
So that's it from here... weeding and getting presents.

And all of a sudden, another entire week has flown by. Now I will take a moment to say Hi! Memorial Day! What we're Memorating exactly, I'm not entirely sure. My first inclination is to say Veterans (as opposed to Vetrenarians--who are also wonderful people and should be memorated), but they have their own day way in November. But perhaps it's because November is so damn cold to have a parade in. Not that May is that much better. Anyways, Happy Memorial Day, even though I vegged through it.
Now you ask me, why did you just veg through Memorial Day? You should be out waving your flag and such.
Well, frankly, I'm freaking exhausted! Why do I say that? Well one of my suitemates is getting married in July (YAY!), and her Bridal Shower was this weekend (Yay!). She lives about 3 1/2 hours away (or from 11am to 3 pm as a 3 hour drive by my math), so it's not too much of a problem for me to go! Since I seem to be at some sort of a nexus point (where 81 meets 90) and I just got a new house that people wanted to see, more suitemates stopped by on the way up so we could carpool (YAY!). I drive the car with perhaps the smallest trunk-space, so of course we have to take it (yay.). But I'm the fresh driver as the mileage that they drove to get to my house is more than what I've driven to work and back since I've moved in. By a lot. So anyway, they all come up on Friday (Hi Eunice--my house!) and we stay up late as we don't get dinner until the last one got in, and then we have games and excitement and catching up to do. (Hi Amanda--who reads my blog but doesn't have a website for me to plug) And we stay up waaaaaaaaaaaaay past my normal bedtime. By like 4 hours. But that's ok. So I have to get up with my kittens (Mommy! You said wake you up at 7! Mommy! We want breakfast! Mommy! We want to go outside! Mommy! Mommy! Mommy! Breakfast! Mommy! Out! Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!), climb back in bed, snooze for a bit, but we really need to get up and get on the road. Driver is operating a car on four or so hours of sleep.
We get to Buffalo and take a crowbar and pry ourselves out of my tiny car. Unfortunately Fiancee is without her car as Fiance has taken it to bick up future mother-in-law, and won't be back. And we have errands. So we cram back in (more) into my car... 5 adults now in a tiny Focus (Hi Angus--my car!) and we go tooling around Buffalo. And we go out to dinner and then we call Fiance to see if Fiance wants to join us when we go out and about. Fiance does. Fortunately, he brings the car. YAY as there are not enough seatbelts for six people and the entire Northeastern US was doing a "click it or ticket" campaign. So we go to Niagara Falls. At about ten that night.
Let me just tell you the Cave of the Winds tour is FREAKING AMAZING!
Onto continued exhaustion story. We take the last Cave of the Winds tour (11pm!), have our minds blown away by the awesome power of nature in falling water careening about you, ready to pulverize you into itty bitty pieces as the sheer force of that much water propelled by gravity would smush you agains the sharp rocks at the bottom and only a wooden structure is standing between you and the water tearing you apart! It'll wake you up at 11 at night, let me tell you!
We finish there, take our official Cave of the Wind sandals and go to the newly-opened Casino. I spent 5 bucks. woo boy. < sarcasm >Will the exictement never cease? < / sarcasm > Seriously, the most amusing part was looking at all the people so addicted to wasting their money on the chance that they could win something. These people had their eyes glazed, official gambling cards attached from their hips to the machines like an IV drip. Not to mention you couldn't just put in $1. You had to use at least $5 to play, even on the nickel slots.
So we get back in at like 1am. Sleep. Wake up. Get ready. Go to the shower. Go set up.
At which point, I realize that yoga has a second benefit. I believe the name of the posture is "half moon" that works remarkably well for holding open two doors across a little entry way so people can load boxes. Go me!
We have the shower (yummy food). Amanda starts winning prizes like mad (bridal bingo, bridal word-scramble, about the 3rd door prize). I get an Azalea bush to scape in my land (now that I have land to scape). We pack up the opened gifts and truck back once again. We play some more games and chat and such, then truck on home to Syracuse. I feel like I've driven 2 days straight on little sleep. Of course, I have no food in my house as Sunday is grocery-shopping day. So we truck on down to Wegmans to get some food to eat that night at about 9. I only have a teeny little George Foreman Grill, so I could cook one hamburger and 2 hot dogs at once. And I do, feed everyone else first, finally get me some dinner, and we stay up again, playing games (I was cursed to have a chicken on my head, but I did manage to steal the Kneepads of Allure and wield the Mallet of St. Eeeeeuuuuuuuuw). So everyone left (Bye!) and I crawl onto my couch and take a nap out of utter exaustion.
Weekend Summery: Good food, good friends, great time, goodnight!

The good things about the weekend: I've got new front steps! YAY! I got to see Mike and Jamie! YAY!
Two 12 hour days of construction and hauling and sawing and drilling and prying and measuring and going to Home Depot for more wood and sawing and drilling and measuring and plan B and plan C and plan D later, I have new front steps.
That's pretty much all I did. It was Family bonding... I was so exhausted. I'm still so exhausted. So we tore up the floor to my front porch and discovered a WHOLE FREAKING COLONY OF CARPENTER ANTS! Now I love a Bug's Life as much as the next person, but these ants weren't blue or purpule. They were big, black, shiny, and juicy. And they were eating my house.
So, they got removed. All the wood there got removed. 2 layers of plywood because the last people who redid the front just layed down a layer of plywood over the rotting crap. We had to raise up the support beams a little, which was easy, lay down the new plywood, and then cover the existing stairs. Easier said than done. The original plan involved knocking the edges off the cement steps.
Wasn't going to happen.
So we ended up building a box-like structure that extended the top stair out over the top cement step and working from there. Only we had to shim the bottom step, so it's a little taller than the rest, but that's ok too. But now I've got a little patio/porch thingie out from the enclosed front porch. (It's hard to describe). But I need to paint them, which will come when I paint the rest of the house (or have it painted).
But I was going to mow my lawn yesterday, but construction was still going on, so I didn't. And I'm bushed! Anyways, looking forward to seeing people on Friday. I'll have to figure out directions from the south. I might take a long way home from work just to see.

A quick blog before bedtime to say that yes this is the real Liz as opposed to Susie. More unpacking stuff done today and yesterday. I hosted Mother's Day Dinner/Lunch, and discovered that I have a very over-grown herb garden. Anyone want some sage? Anyone?
We reclaimed my lawn, hacked out a bunch of other stuff. Ripped out some climbing choker-vines and then there was a huge downpour rainstorm and it thundered and lightninged and I had to frantically shut windows. I'm doing laundry and about to go to bed. So...
night!

Hello! I am taking over for Liz, and everyone else for that matter. Soon I will have taken over the net and consequently the universe and you will all bow down to me...erm maybe not bow that would sort of freak me out, but you could pay homage to me and send me multitudes of hotness as your leader, I think that would work out very nicely.
Hm interesting fact, if you lined up all the DOTS made in a day it would measure 150 miles...I have no idea what that is metric for all you non-United States living freaks. I mean really all people should use our confusing system, the metric system makes way to much sense, and really logicality is overrated in my book, bring on the confusion and mass destruction, let chaos reign now and forever! Or not, up to you really.
Did you know you can derive your self worth from soap? This is what I am learning, right now, as I type this. So if you want to know how much your self is worth go ask your soap or any soap for that matter. I think this frightens me, if soap is where one derives their self worth do you think this is a ploy for the soap to try and take over the world. It is good I caught this when I did, I can now thwart all attempts by the soap to try and take over the world, I will be a modern super hero much like Batman only female and without the cool car and outfit, oh well, I will just have to buy myself cool, so people can identify me as modern superhero...I will also need a name, perhaps Super Hero Girl, catchy ain't it?
Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't, truer words have never been spoken, by anyone ever. Right now I do not feel like a nut but later, I just might, although I will probably be asleep later but I often feel nut like in sleep, I mean who doesn't? That is normal isn't it?
I am done now. Next blog will be your regularly scheduled programing but just so you know this blog was a production of the public blogcast system...corny aren't I? Oh and this is me. Woot!

Well, I'm here. My first night alone, and I could just fall asleep and sleep like a rock straight through until morning! Let me tell you, over the past two days, I've moved most of my stuff, painted my living room (2 coats) and my bathroom (1 coat) . The Washer and Drier people came, but the Driver dinged my drier, so I've got a gift-certificate coming. The cable people came and gave me digital cable and Road Runner which means that I'm online. YAY!
And more schlepping and painting and schlepping and painting and some unpacking, and 10,000 thanks to my neighborhood neighbor and co-worker for bringing us dinner. It was yummy. About 5:00 today, mom and I realized that we hadn't eaten all day. So we're doing all this schlepping and painting on virtually 0 calories. Oh, I'm tired. I'm just tired.
And I might check out what's on TV on Saturday nights. Because I have cable now. Yay cable. I also have a ton of boxes to unpack, and I have to find the one with my glasses in it eventually. And the one with my undies and clothings so I can actually wear something other than my painting clothes.
I'm soooo tired. Too tired to give shout-outs, because they require more keystrokes. So yeah, that's about it. I'll blog more when my brain is on something other than 13 hours straight of work.

HAPPY BELTANE EVERYONE! Enjoy your day of Pagany goodness... or what's little left of it. Anyways, I've just pulled like 6 boxes of stuff out of my room. I still have some more to go *sigh*. When did I acquire so much CRAP?!
But tomorrow starts the big move, and I will be without internet until the Time Warner people come and hook me up on Saturday. And even then, it will be unlikely that I'll get on until Sunday evening as I will have packing and unpacking and painting and other sorts of stuff to do. And on Monday, I will ride my bike to work! YAAAY! I so need to get a mechanical garage door opener for my garage. Mostly because locking it will be a pain without it. And that's where my bike will live!
And Squishy will live in my livingroom. He'll become a TV junkie, I'm sure. I don't know where Big Mr. O will stay, perhaps in the Castle room, or mayhaps wherever I put my leopard spotted rug.
Let's see. What else? Not all that much. Other than I'm going out of my head trying to pack and stuff and I'm going to be moving and it's like AAAAH! I mean, I'm a freaking homeowner! It's insane! It is absolutely insane! Do you hear me, Lenny INSANE!
Well I either have to go bounce off the walls or go to bed. So Jen: I'll try to get on when I can get on, but I have no idea what sort of shape my computer will be in and I think I'm going to go bonkers in 3...
